Thunder lizards have run amok in the enjoyable Dino Cap 2 HD, a gruesome third person shooter for iPhone and iPad. Playing as one of four unique characters, including the Star Wars inspired Force Knight (complete with lightsaber), you crisscross a super continent laying waste to dangerous creatures while earning virtual currency and experience along the way.
Triniti Interactive broke the game up into a series of short missions with different objectives. One, for example, challenges you to survive endless waves of dinosaurs for a specific amount of time, while another tasks you with killing a select number of enemies.
At your disposal are a plethora of weapons that help get the job done, like the TEC-DC9, RPG and Flamethrower. You also have a melee attack, though it's more of a last resort and a smart way to conserve ammunition, which comes at a premium in the armory.
Basically, you complete levels, throw cash into the bank and then upgrade weapons/purchase ammo to deal with the progressively difficult monsters.
You can grind it out, spending an untold number of hours to afford the good stuff (and unlock all of the heroes), or- and like most iPhone/iPad games these days- cough up some real world currency, spending anywhere from $0.99 to $4.99 after paying a buck for the App.
On top of that, there's an issue with the weapon switching system. Instead of choosing a load out, you continuously press a button to cycle through all of the guns. Good luck doing that while being nibbled on from both sides.

That notwithstanding, Dino Cap 2 HD provides gun-toting fun. The game's 2D graphics bear a striking resemblance to Zombieville USA, complete with cartoon style visuals enhanced by buckets of gore; dinosaur eyeballs and brains fly all over the place.
Is it perfect? No. The missions eventually grow tiresome, and you'll likely give up the grind, but for a dollar, it's worth a look.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.
What's Hot: Multiple weapons, tons of gore, cool 2D graphics, hours of blasting action.
What's Not: Too much level grinding, developers never mention in app purchases upfront, repetitive missions.
